FBI agent-in-training Mackenzie White struggles to make her mark in the FBI Academy in Quantico, trying to prove herself as a woman and as a transplant from Nebraska. Hoping she has what it takes to become an FBI agent and leave her life in the Midwest behind for good, Mackenzie just wants to keep a low profile and impress her superiors.

But all that changes when the body of a woman is found in a garbage dump. The murder bears shocking similarities to the Scarecrow Killer - the case that made Mackenzie famous in Nebraska - and in the frantic race against time to stop a new serial killer, the FBI decides to break protocol and give Mackenzie a chance on the case.

It is Mackenzie's big break, her chance to impress the FBI - but the stakes have never been higher. Not everyone wants her on the case, and everything she touches seems to go wrong. As the pressure mounts and the killer strikes again, Mackenzie finds herself as a lone voice in a sea of experienced agents, and she soon realizes she is in way over her head. Her entire future with the FBI is in jeopardy.

As tough and determined as Mackenzie is, as brilliant as she is in hunting down killers, this new case proves an impossible riddle, something just beyond her reach. She may not even have time to crack it as her own life falls apart around her.

Before He Sees A Mackenzie White Mystery Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Blake Pierce Elaine Wise Books

Disappointing. This is the second book I have read now in this series and the main character is pretty annoying. She continuously and deliberately defies her superior orders and goes headlong into very dangerous situations all by herself to solve a case...all by herself. She's a rookie, and in one case still a student but she still goes headlong by herself without even calling for backup first. These constant actions make the character hard to like and the storyline unbelievable.

Before He Sees A Mackenzie White Mystery Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Blake Pierce Elaine Wise Books Reviews

Mackenzie White is an FBI trainee at the academy in Quantico.
She is chosen for a special assignment involving a serial killer - much like Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs. There endeth any similarity between Mackenzie and Clarice. Mackenzie consistently disobeys direct orders, not only from her supervisor, but from her supervisor’s supervisor Even after being threatened with expulsion from the academy, Mackenzie barges ahead on her own path, knowing that it could end her career Those actions just don’t make any sense. Someone that self-centered and Undependable would never be chosen as an FBI recruit, And she would have been taken off the case at the first incident of not doing as she as told

If you like mysteries, you might enjoy this book if you can get past the blatant disregard for law enforcement policies and procedures. Unfortunately, I couldn’t
The writing itself was fine but moved at a snail's pace and none of the characters were well-defined enough to care about. Mackenzie was drawn in such pale colors she came across as an idea of a character, not a breathing woman....I felt absolutely no empathy for her, just made me yawn. I have an obsessed to finish any book I've read even a few chapters of it i would have dropped this one. I see it's a series so I am probably in the minority with my negative review but......yawn.
After overlooking a few typos and unbelievable parts in the first book of this series, I am surprised I wasted time reading this book. It got to the point where I had to distract myself from the unlikely story by finding errors. One of the biggest errors was when the "agent" is getting in trouble for interviewing additional contacts when she was told only to notify the victims' family. The supervisory agent calls the lady who filed a complaint against Agent White by the name of the victim. Did anyone proofread this before it was published? Weak character development and unbelievable plot.
Book 2 is a bit better at not making the heroine so unbelievable. But, she's still aggravating to me. The constant boasting, from herself and every one else, is annoying. I never saw this in her; she used her brain, which is good, but in many ways, she's not so smart. She gets lucky - a lot - and then gets praised for bad decisions that luck got her out of. As usual, the men are still as one dimensional as in the first book, either foaming at the mouth angry or foaming at the mouth in heat, because, you know, she's so perfect looks, brains, behavior, etc. I'm going to just stop here on Book 2.
Book was full of errors and skipped pages. Would skip entire segments of the story, then go back to part of the story that should have followed. Not going to read any more of this author's work. Manuscripts submitted on should be proofed and edited.
Just as well Mac doesn't live in the real world. You know.. that place where you follow orders, carry ID, have backup and kiss a guy you really want (not just think hes ok).
I'm done with this author. ***Spoilers Ahead***** The writing is just not what I'd expect. The story is a good try, but getting there didn't work for me. I felt like they were trying to knit together Silence of the Lambs and a few Criminal Minds episodes. Mackenzie White is half way through the FBI Academy (living in her own apartment and picking and choosing classes like she's going to college, mind you) when she gets asked to help on a new case. Because it has similarities to a case she cracked when she worked in Nebraska. However, the author failed to provide ANY similarities to the other case, other than people were dead. And, since ALL of the victims had some sort of door to door job, Mackenzie is the ONLY one who can figure out that that is important? Are you kidding me? Again, trying to make a strong female lead be indispensable by making everyone else stupid. I feel like the writer had an idea for a story, but got stuck filling in the details and had to come up with SOMETHING to make her smarter than everyone else. Except that something was a detail my 5 year old niece could have figured out. And if the FBI is so worried about her working when she is only half way through the academy, why on earth would they yank her out of classes only to give her a hard time about it? The law enforcement aspects of the books this author writes are just too unrealistic. It's clear the author knows nothing about how law enforcement works, how academies work, how the FBI works. Very annoying. The FBI crime scene people go over a crime scene, yet Mackenzie can always find something they missed. The profilers are looking at the case, yet she is also the only one who can figure out what appears to be a very basic profile. Just stop. You can have a strong, female lead without making everyone else be so inept that she is the ONLY one who can solve anything.
